Yale New Haven Hospital opens outpatient medical facility in North Haven

3/4/2013 — Yale New Haven Hospital's new North Haven Medical Center was formally dedicated Feb. 28. The new center offers comprehensive outpatient services, including cancer care, interventional immunology and walk-in care centers.

Located at 6 Devine Street in North Haven, the 20,000-square-foot, four-story building will also offer laboratory and blood-draw services, as well as onsite MRI, fluoroscopy and digital X-ray imaging.

"It is with great pride that we dedicate the Yale New Haven North Haven Medical Center, the culmination of an ambitious dream and the hard work of many that enables us to now offer a range of high-quality health care services all under one roof to North Haven and the surrounding communities," said Richard D'Aquila, Yale New Haven Hospital President and Chief Operating Officer. "We are excited to bring advanced medicine in many forms to our patients and their families."

The medical center will include a Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center for outpatient medical oncology and hematological care for cancer patients. This is one of ten of the hospital's community-based cancer care centers.

In a few weeks, an interventional immunology center will open on the second floor for patients with multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, other auto-immune diseases and inflammatory bowel diseases.

The first-floor walk-in care center will be open six days a week to provide comprehensive medical services to treat non life-threatening medical conditions and injuries on a scheduled or walk-in basis.

"We're delighted to officially welcome Yale New Haven Hospital to North Haven," said Michael J. Freda, North Haven First Selectman. "We are working to make Devine Street a medical destination that will help with our overall efforts to spur economic growth in town with forward-thinking, thoughtful projects that benefit our citizens. Yale New Haven's North Haven Medical Center is an essential building block of our plans."

The YNHH venture received widespread community and political support for spurring economic growth and helping to make the area a medical destination. Last October, Yale New Haven consolidated much of its information technology services (ITS) and moved more than 200 employees to the third and fourth floors of the building.

Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH), part of Yale New Haven Health, is a nationally recognized, 1,541-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine (YSM). Founded as the fourth voluntary hospital in the U.S. in 1826, today, YNHH has two New Haven-based campuses, and also includes Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital and Smilow Cancer Hospital. YNHH has received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the nation’s highest honor of nursing excellence. YNHH has a combined medical staff of about 4,500 university and community physicians practicing in more than 100 specialties. www.ynhh.org
