New Haven, CT (Nov. 17, 2025) – Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) today announced the closing of its transaction to acquire Nelson Ambulance and its affiliates – Access Ambulance Service, Connecticut Handivan and The Limo Group. Staff and media attended the integration celebration which was held at Nelson’s North Haven facility on Quinnipiac Avenue.
“YNHHS is always looking for opportunities to grow and strengthen services to better meet the needs of the patients and communities we serve,” said Christopher O’Connor, CEO, YNHHS. “This will significantly expand our Health System’s medical transport capabilities, creating a more seamless, integrated experience for our patients across the care continuum.”
YNHHS and Nelson leaders have worked closely over the past months to chart a transition plan that ensure this process runs as smoothly as possible for employees, patients and clinical partners. This acquisition will expand access for Nelson’s existing patients to the full complement of resources available under the YNHHS umbrella, providing additional support to strengthen medical transport in the region. YNHHS will maintain emergency transport services currently offered by Nelson’s North Haven and Milford hubs and will continue collaborating with Nelson’s current partners to ensure uninterrupted care.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our two organizations to unite to better serve the needs of communities across Connecticut,” said Saleem Khan, president of Nelson Ambulance Service and Affiliate Transportation companies. “We have a long history of strong collaboration, and by joining together we can expand access to care across the state and ensure that Connecticut’s patients are treated with high quality care, starting at transport.”
