Awards come as the pandemic increases risk of strokes
Greenwich, CT (August 25, 2020) – Greenwich Hospital’s high-quality stroke program has been recognized by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for providing up-to-the-minute scientifically based treatment to support better patient outcomes.
The Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award represent the exceptional care patients with stroke and diabetes receive at Greenwich Hospital. This is particularly relevant at a time when studies show COVID-19 patients are at increased risk for developing complications, such as blood clots and stroke, and patients with certain conditions, such as diabetes, are already at high risk of complications if they contract COVID-19.

A stroke occurs when a clot or a rupture prevents blood flow to the brain. Stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of adult disability, reports the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, which estimates that someone dies of a stroke every 40 seconds.
Get With The Guidelines® is the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s hospital-based quality improvement program that provides hospitals with tools and resources to diagnosis and treat stroke patients. The Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award is a new award recognizing hospitals that meet quality measures for 12 consecutive months. More than 34 million Americans have diabetes, a potentially fatal disease.
