Greenwich Hospital named by U.S. News & World Report as Most Connected Hospital for 2015

Monday, October 19, 2015

Greenwich Hospital has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a Most Connected Hospital for 2015, making it part of an elite group of 158 national medical institutions recognized for clinical excellence and its use of digital technology such as electronic medical records.

“We’re extremely proud to be part of an elite group of national healthcare providers who effectively integrate health information technology to deliver high-quality and safe patient care given today’s digital healthcare landscape,” said Norman G. Roth, president of Greenwich Hospital. “From electronic medical records to interactive patient portals, we are committed to staying at the forefront of health information technology as a way to better serve our patients, physicians and community.”

The use of electronic medical records benefits both patients and providers. Storing a patient’s medical information in one secure electronic location gives the entire healthcare team access to the same data, making it easier to track progress, coordinate care and avoid duplicative tests. Technology also allows prescribed drugs and doses to be computer-vetted against each patient to prevent life-threatening medication errors.

To identify the Most Connected Hospitals, U.S. News analyzed dozens of variables spanning three domains of medicine where electronic connectedness impact patients. U.S. News assigned domain-specific scores and an overall score to each hospital that participated in the American Hospital Association information technology survey administered nationwide. Hospitals that earned at least 70 out of 75 points in the 2014 survey or 55 out of 61 points in the 2013 survey and achieved national ranking or high performing recognition in the current edition of Best Hospitals, Best Hospitals for Common Care or Best Children’s Hospitals were recognized as Most Connected Hospitals. In all, 158 hospitals, including Yale New Haven Hospital, made the Most Connected Hospitals list.
