Catherine A. Lyons, RN, MS, named clinical program director at Smilow

New Haven — Catherine A. Lyons, RN, MS, NEA-BC, has been named clinical program director, Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven, and director of oncology nursing. She will serve as a member of the Smilow executive team, directing nursing and patient care services in the cancer hospital - including inpatient and ambulatory oncology care.

Before joining YNHH, Lyons was the associate director of clinical services and nursing at the University of Rochester, James P. Wilmot Cancer Center, in Rochester, NY. In 2002, she served as chief of the Office of Clinical Trials Support and Research Nursing in the Center for Cancer Research at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD. Prior to that, she was the executive director of cancer services at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD.

Lyons began her career at Roswell Park Cancer Institute where she was chief nursing officer and vice president of clinical operations. While at Roswell, Lyons also served in the U.S. Army Reserves in the Army Nurse Corps, where she rose to the rank of major.

A native of New York, Lyons earned her BSN at Niagara University and her MSN at the State University of New York at Buffalo. She was an assistant professor of clinical nursing at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. Lyons is also certified as an advanced nurse executive by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
