The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Practice Transition Accreditation Program awarded reaccreditation to the YNHHS Nurse Residency Program via a celebratory virtual call June 25. Reaccreditation ensures the program continues to meet ANCC’s evidence-based standards for excellence in nurse transition.
Yale New Haven Health System’s Nurse Residency Program officially earned its second accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP). The program supports nursing school graduates in their transition to professional nursing practice.
Nurses across YNHHS gathered at their respective hospitals on June 25 to tune into a live virtual call with the ANCC for the official announcement. With pom-poms in hand, staff cheered enthusiastically at every location.
“This is a really proud moment for all of us,” said Stephanie Barrett, RN, YNHHS nurse residency program director. “Achieving our second system accreditation is a tremendous accomplishment and reflection of the dedication and collaboration of so many people across our health system.”
YNHHS’s Nurse Residency Program is one of only 340 programs of its kind accredited across the globe, according to the ANCC. The year-long program provides specialized training, support and professional development to help newly licensed nurses transition from nursing school into the workforce. New nurses are paired with dedicated, experienced preceptors and attend monthly seminars led by YNHHS experts to help ensure a smooth and successful transition during their first year.
“The accreditation is more than just a milestone. It’s a reflection of our health system’s commitment to supporting our newest nurses,” Barrett said. “It demonstrates the investment in providing the education, mentorship and resources needed to help our new nurses build confidence, develop clinical judgement and thrive in their roles.”
