If you, your employee or student tested positive for COVID-19 and are now wondering about whether it’s safe to leave isolation, read the following instructions below.

Please note, repeated COVID-19 testing is not recommended and should not be used to determine your eligibility for returning to work or school.


In accordance with guidance from the CDC and CT Department of Public Health, Yale New Haven Health recommends you can leave isolation if you meet the following criteria:

  1. It has been at least 10 days since symptoms first appeared, OR at least 10 days since the collection date for a positive COVID-19 test if you did not have any symptoms, AND
  2. It has been at least 24 hours since the last time you experienced a fever (if any), AND
  3. Symptoms (if any) are clearly improving, AND
  4. You currently are not severely immunocompromised or have severe illness.
