Yale New Haven Hospital named a top 10 nonprofit company for executive women

2/18/2013 — Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) has been named to the 2013 NAFE 10 Nonprofits for Executive Women list by the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE).

One of the country's largest associations for women professionals and business owners, NAFE provides resources — through education, networking and public advocacy — to empower its members to achieve both career and personal success. The list recognizes organizations whose policies and practices encourage women's advancement and whose numbers at the highest levels of leadership demonstrate that commitment.

"Yale New Haven Hospital is totally committed to workplace equality. It is just one of the ways Yale New Haven distinguishes itself as an employer of choice," said Marna P. Borgstrom, chief executive officer, YNHH. "We're honored to be recognized by NAFE for something that we regard as integral to who we are and what we do."

YNHH has been recognized as the employer of choice for the region, offering many benefits and programs to help not only female employees, but all employees meet work-life demands, such as internal advancement, tuition reimbursement, dependent tuition, employee health and wellness programs, and a unique performance incentive plan which allows employees to share in the hospital's financial success.

The hospital has found that flexible work arrangements — such as telecommuting, part-time and casual status, compressed workweeks, job sharing and an on-site daycare for hospital employees — were particularly appealing to older workers and attractive to new applicants and women interested in returning to the workforce after having a child.

NAFE will honor each of the Top Companies at a gala luncheon in New York City on March 20.

Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH), part of Yale New Haven Health, is a nationally recognized, 1,541-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine (YSM). Founded as the fourth voluntary hospital in the U.S. in 1826, today, YNHH has two New Haven-based campuses, and also includes Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital and Smilow Cancer Hospital. YNHH has received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the nation’s highest honor of nursing excellence. YNHH has a combined medical staff of about 4,500 university and community physicians practicing in more than 100 specialties. www.ynhh.org
