New Haven — Yale New Haven Children's Hospital has been ranked among the best in the nation for two of its subspecialties in the 2010 edition of America's Best Children's Hospitals, published online by U.S.News & World Report. The hospital's diabetes/endocrine disorders services ranked number seven in the nation, and its gastrointestinal care services were ranked number 26 in the country. The rankings will also be published in the August print issue of U.S.News & World Report.
"We are honored to have our children's hospitals specialties ranked among the best in the United States," said Peter Herbert, MD, chief of staff and senior vice president of medical affairs at Yale New Haven Hospital. "We are especially proud that our comprehensive pediatric thyroid program and overall diabetes and endocrinology programs are in elite company."
A three-part blend of reputation, outcome and care-related measures such as the availability of physicians trained in pediatric sub-specialties, nursing care and advanced technology were criteria for selection in the 2010 America's Best Children's Hospital's issue. Criteria also included a combination of opinions from pediatric specialists about the hospitals they would recommend for the sickest children, and data gathered in a 65-page survey.
Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, affiliated with the highly-ranked Yale School of Medicine, opened in 1993 as Connecticut's first comprehensive children's hospital. It is part of Yale New Haven Hospital, which was the only hospital in Connecticut to be named in U.S. News' 2009 Honor Roll of America's Best Hospitals.
YNHCH provides inpatient, outpatient, emergency, primary and preventive care and serves as one of New England's major referral centers for diagnosis and treatment of pediatric problems including diabetes care, complex bone disorders and thyroid disease, transplantation, interventional cardiology and neonatology.
