Yale New Haven Hospital Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit ranked eighth in Northeast by Newsweek

Tuesday, January 6, 2026

Milford, CT (December 31, 2025) – The Yale New Haven Hospital Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (IRU), located at the Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital, has been recognized as a top Physical Rehabilitation Center by Newsweek. The Milford Campus IRU was ranked eighth in the Northeast.

Inpatient physical rehabilitation facilities are often used for patients recuperating from the most severe illnesses or injuries. These centers provide intensive therapy with multidisciplinary teams of medical professionals. Research shows that physical therapy following surgery reduces recovery time. Additionally, patients treated with physical therapy experience reduced pain and improved mobility, which results in better function.

“By providing intensive, coordinated therapy in a supportive hospital setting, inpatient rehabilitation helps patients achieve better outcomes, return home safely and reduce the risk of complications or readmission,” said Necolle Morgado-Vega, DO, medical director of the IRU. “It’s not just about recovery, it’s about restoring quality of life by helping patients regain strength, independence and confidence.”

There are more than 1,000 inpatient physical rehabilitation centers in the United States. Newsweek recognizes 320 as America's Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers based on a survey of experts, quality metrics and accreditation data. The 25 states with the most facilities according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) were ranked individually. The facilities from the remaining states were grouped into 4 regions: Northeast, Midwest, West and South. The Milford Campus IRU was the top performer in Connecticut.

Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH), part of Yale New Haven Health, is a nationally recognized, 1,541-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine (YSM).
