Cynthia Sparer named executive director of Yale New Haven Children's Hospital

3/10/2011 — Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) has appointed Cynthia N. Sparer as executive director of its children's hospital and vice president for women's and children's services. Sparer has served as interim executive director of Yale New Haven Children's Hospital (YNHCH) since May 2010. She will oversee strategic planning, program development, physician recruitment and operational oversight.

Prior to joining YNHH, Sparer served as senior vice president of New York-Presbyterian Hospital and executive director of the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and the Komansky Center for Children's Health.

"Cynthia brings an exceptional wealth of experience to our organization, having served nearly three decades in healthcare leadership," said Richard D'Aquila, executive vice president and COO of YNHH. "Women's and children's services are highly ranked centers of excellence that have helped Yale New Haven achieve national recognition. Recruiting someone of Cynthia's caliber and background is invaluable in ensuring that these services will continue to flourish."

Sparer also served as executive director of Monmouth (NJ) Medical Center and Schneider Children's Hospital in New York and as vice president of University Hospitals of Cleveland, where she was responsible for Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. A resident of New Haven, she earned her BA degree at American University and her MPA in health policy, planning and administration at New York University.

Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH), part of Yale New Haven Health, is a nationally recognized, 1,541-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine (YSM). Founded as the fourth voluntary hospital in the U.S. in 1826, today, YNHH has two New Haven-based campuses, and also includes Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital and Smilow Cancer Hospital. YNHH has received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the nation’s highest honor of nursing excellence.
