Smilow Cancer Hospital has locations conveniently located across the region providing access to renowned cancer experts and classical hematology specialists. Working together with the patient, they develop a personalized treatment plan. Additionally, patients have direct access to ground-breaking research, world-class physicians, genetic testing, tumor profiling, and clinical trials through Yale Cancer Center, Connecticut’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
As part of Yale New Haven Health, one of the country’s leading health systems, Smilow Cancer Hospital at Stamford provides seamless care in conjunction with Greenwich Hospital comprehensive services to help patients navigate from diagnosis and treatment to recovery and survivorship.
Radiation oncology, surgical oncology, and clinical trials are coordinated through Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich. Surgeries may be performed at Greenwich Hospital or at Yale New Haven Hospital. Medical oncology; including infusions and injections are offered at both Long Ridge Medical Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital at Greenwich.
Women with a diagnosis of breast cancer are cared for by a multidisciplinary team of physician specialists at the Center for Breast Cancer, including radiologists, breast surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and plastic surgeons.
The Hematology Program offers the most comprehensive services for the diagnosis and treatment of blood cancers in the region. Patients have access to a disease-based multispecialty team with special interest and clinical expertise treating lymphoma, leukemia, and myeloma. Physicians meet regularly to discuss patient care and to develop a comprehensive treatment plan unique for each patient.
The Gynecologic Oncology Program focuses on the care of women with gynecologic cancers. Women diagnosed with vulvar, vaginal, cervical, uterine, fallopian tube, or ovarian cancers are provided with exceptional care. Gynecologic oncology services unite a multidisciplinary team of clinicians. Our physicians are board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in the subspecialty of gynecologic oncology, which brings together surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation oncology.
Patients being cared for by the Prostate and Urologic Cancers Program benefit from the expertise of a collaborative approach to cancer care, which personalizes treatment options for tumors affecting the prostate, bladder, kidney, testes, upper tract (ureter and renal pelvis), penis, and urethra. As part of your care, we engage experts who specialize in medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, pathology, and diagnostic imaging.
Overview
The Multidisciplinary Prostate Cancer Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital, located at suite 2400, offers a comprehensive evaluation focused on optimizing clinical care and outcomes for patients with newly diagnosed localized and locally advanced prostate cancer. The program consists of a multidisciplinary team of expert specialists working in collaboration to provide the best personalized treatment plan for each patient.
Our physicians will assess and together discuss the next steps for each patient, including discussing innovative clinical trials that may be available.
Who is at risk for prostate cancer?
Any male born with a prostate is at risk for developing prostate cancer. However, some factors increase the likelihood of getting prostate cancer, including:
Multidisciplinary team
Our multidisciplinary team of experts, including urologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine specialists as needed, collaborates to develop a customized care plan for every patient.
Who is eligible?
Newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients are eligible to receive a multidisciplinary visit with a urologist, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist. In addition, men with high-risk localized, advanced or oligometastatic prostate cancer, a stage where the cancer has only spread to one or a few sites, are eligible to participate.
Patients will be prescreened for eligibility into the program by a physician. Patients will then be presented to the multidisciplinary team, where a recommendation for a treatment plan will be discussed. Patients may have options for multiple approaches, including robotic prostatectomy, radiation therapy, systemic therapies (e.g., hormone treatments), and clinical trials.

The Center for Thoracic Cancers coordinates and integrates the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of patients diagnosed with a thoracic malignancy, including lung cancer, thymic cancers, mesothelioma, esophageal, or chest wall tumors. Specialties include medical oncology, radiation oncology, thoracic surgery, pulmonary medicine, interventional oncology, pulmonary intervention, pathology, diagnostic imaging, and nursing.
Our patients have access to the Lung Cancer Screening Program which has proven to be a critical tool in providing patients at risk with individualized, evidence-based screening, and helping to detect these cancers earlier.
