Guidelines for Returning to Work or School After Isolation

If you tested positive for COVID-19 and are now wondering about whether it’s safe to leave isolation, read the following instructions below.

Please note, repeated COVID-19 testing is not recommended and should not be used to determine your eligibility for returning to work or school.

Guidelines

In accordance with guidance from the CDC, if you test positive for COVID-19 you should:

  1. Isolate for 5 days regardless of vaccination status
  2. Only leave isolation after 5 days if you have no symptoms or your symptoms are improving, including at least 24 hours without a fever
  3. Continue to wear a mask around others until at least day 11 and avoid others who may get severely ill from COVID

If you were exposed to COVID-19, you should get tested even if you don't have symptoms and wear a mask around others. If you start to feel sick, start to isolate right away.

Check with your workplace or school system if you have questions about their policies concerning positive COVID-19 tests.
