A message from the president of Greenwich Hospital
As a father and grandfather, I know one thing for sure: Sooner or later you’re
bound to end up in the Emergency Department with an injured or sick child.
As a critical community resource, Greenwich Hospital takes pride in providing
round-the-clock emergency care to people of all ages, including our youngest
patients. Children account for close to a quarter of the 40,000 visits to the
Emergency Department each year.
In our quest to constantly improve the patient experience, Greenwich Hospital
has partnered with pediatric emergency medicine physicians at Yale New
Haven Children’s Hospital (YNHCH) to provide the most advanced pediatric
emergency services in the area. YNHCH is nationally ranked by U.S. News &
World Report in eight specialties, the highest in Connecticut and among the
highest ranked in the country.
Yale pediatric specialists are on duty in our Emergency Department from
4 pm through the night until 8 am the next day. That’s the time when most
local pediatricians’ offices are closed, prompting parents to bring their children
to the Emergency Department instead. As an added benefit, these Yale
specialists also see hospitalized children at Greenwich Hospital, providing
families and community pediatricians peace of mind.
This expansion of pediatric services comes in the wake of recent multimilliondollar
renovations throughout our Emergency Department, including
improvements to make the experience for children as smooth and stress-free
as possible. We created a separate pediatric waiting room, featuring a virtual
fish tank and other child-friendly decor. We have new rooms exclusively
designed for treating children, and those with less serious conditions are seen
in our “fast track” rooms to minimize waiting time.
We hope you never need to use our Emergency Department. But if the occasion
arises, rest assured that your child will be in good hands.
These are important lessons we all can keep close to our hearts.
