Dependent Tuition Loan applications due Dec. 1

YNHH's Dependent Tuition Loan Program allows eligible employees to borrow money for their dependent children's college tuition. To qualify, the employee must have completed the equivalent of at least five continuous years of full-time service (or a combination of full- and part-time continuous service) and the dependent child must be under age 25 and enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student. The hospital pays interest on the loan while the student attends school; loan repayment begins once the child graduates or at the end of the loan term. Employees may borrow up to $2,500 per child, per academic year, for a maximum $10,000 total over four years. Employees who received a $2,500 loan in August 2015 are not eligible for another loan until August 2016. For an application, visit ynhhs.org/hrconnect. Tree lightings kick off YNHH holiday season

The Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary invites employees, patients and the community to attend the annual Holiday Tree Lightings Wednesday, Dec. 2. Marna Borgstrom, CEO, YNHH; and Michael Holmes, senior vice president, YNHH, will each be joined by a Yale New Haven Children's Hospital patient for these events. Holmes will host the event noon -12:30 pm in the Saint Raphael Campus main lobby. Holiday music will be performed by Harvey and Amanda. Borgstrom will host the York Street Campus event 4 - 4:30 pm in the Hunter Courtyard, corner of York and Cedar streets. Holiday songs will be performed by Santa's Radiology Carolers. Please consider bringing an unwrapped toy for the Auxiliary's Toy Closet program to the lightings. 

Music from the Yale Medical Symphony Orchestra

The Yale Medical Symphony Orchestra presents its Winter Concert, 7:30 pm Friday, Dec. 4, Harkness Auditorium, Yale School of Medicine. Under the direction of Robert Smith, the symphony will perform Symphony No. 2 in D Major by Johannes Brahms, Finlandia by Jean Sibelius and the Ruslan and Ludmila Overture by Mikhail Glinka. The concert is free and open to the public.

Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds Dec. 8

Employees are invited to Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds, 5 - 6:30 pm Tuesday, Dec. 8, Fitkin Auditorium. The speaker is Marna Borgstrom, president and CEO, YNHHS. The talk is part of a series designed to help employees and physicians enhance their clinical leadership by learning from national and international experts on improvement science. Employee ID required to ride shuttles

All Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale New Haven Health System employees are eligible to ride the YNHH and Yale University shuttle buses, free of charge. YNHH employees must show a valid ID badge to the driver upon boarding. The drivers cannot make any exceptions. YNHH employees also may be required to use their YNHH ID to access their designated parking facility. If your ID is lost, stolen or forgotten, you will not be allowed to park under your employee parking agreement and will have to pay any parking fees. Several shuttle buses run to various parking lots, between the York Street and Saint Raphael campuses and the New Haven train station. YNHH a Most Connected Hospital

U.S. News & World Report has recognized YNHH as a Most Connected Hospital for 2015. YNHH is part of an elite group of national medical institutions recognized for clinical excellence that are also at the forefront of using digital technology such as electronic medical records (EMRs). To identify the Most Connected Hospitals, U.S. News analyzed dozens of variables spanning three domains of medicine where electronic connectedness came to make a difference to patients.

YNHCH Wish Book available

The sixth annual Wish Book, a gift list for Yale New Haven Children's Hospital patients, includes items suggested by hospital staff to comfort children and their families. Many Wish Book gifts are items some families are unable to purchase themselves; other items include equipment that may be in short supply. The items in the 2016 book are designed for gift-giving throughout the year, not just the holidays. Supporters, including many employees, have contributed more than $200,000 for gifts over the last five years. YNHH receives adoption-friendly award

For the second consecutive year, YNHH has been recognized for its employee adoption benefits by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. YNHH was ranked fourth in the healthcare industry on the annual top 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces List for 2015. YNHH offers employees up to16 weeks of paid leave and up to $8,000 in reimbursement for adoption costs. Since 2007, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption has compiled the annual list to honor employers offering the best adoption benefits in the U.S.

World AIDS Day Commemoration Dec. 1

Employees are invited to a free event to commemorate Word AIDS Day, 5 pm Tuesday, Dec. 1, Criterion Theater, 86 Temple St., New Haven. The event includes a reception, screening of the film "We're Still Here" and discussion with filmmakers Grisell Granados and John Thompson.
