Tree lightings kick off YNHH holiday season

The Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary invites employees, patients and the community to the annual Holiday Tree Lightings Tuesday, Dec. 6. Richard D'Aquila, president, and Michael Holmes, senior vice president, YNHH, will each be joined by a Yale New Haven Children's Hospital patient.

Holmes will host the event noon - 12:30 pm in the Saint Raphael Campus main lobby, with holiday music from Harvey and Amanda. D'Aquila will host the York Street Campus event 4 - 4:30 pm in the Hunter Courtyard, corner of York and Cedar streets, with holiday songs from Santa's Radiology Carolers. Please consider bringing an unwrapped toy for the Auxiliary's Toy Closet program to the lightings.

Yale Medical Symphony winter concert Dec. 9

The Yale Medical Symphony will perform its winter concert at 7:30 pm Friday, Dec. 9, Harkness Auditorium. Admission is free. The orchestra is composed of Yale School of Medicine faculty, students, resident physicians and staff, along with Yale New Haven Hospital medical staff members. This year's concert will include Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Overture, Barber's Adagio for Strings and Brahms' Symphony No. 1.

Gifts and gratuities reminder

This holiday season, the Office of Privacy and Corporate Compliance reminds employees about how to respond to gift offers in accordance with the YNHHS Gifts and Gratuities policy. If you receive offers of gifts, gift cards or money from patients, visitors or vendors, you should politely decline and refer the person making the offer to your Development or Foundation office. Perishable gifts such as fruit baskets and cookies are allowed if valued under $50, offered occasionally (quarterly or less frequently) and shared with the employee's department. New medication card available for patient use

A new tri-fold medication card (F5618) is available to order on the Taylor Communications e-commerce site. This wallet-sized card can be distributed to patients to help them keep track of important medical information such as current medications, reason for use and dosage. Patients can also list physician contact information, allergy details and immunization dates. The cards are available in packs of 25. Visit the the ordering site.

LifeCycle Kits available

Employee and Family Resources (EFR) offers free LifeCycle Kits for employees dealing with a major life issue such as a new baby, caring for an elderly relative, trying to get finances under control and others. EFR will send a kit directly to employees' homes, and can provide guidance and resources for employees and their families. For a list of available kits, visit www.achievesolutions.net/ynhhs and click "Advantage LifeCycle Kits" under "Featured Items." Call the EFR at 877-275-6226 to receive a kit. The EFR website also includes information and resources covering a wide variety of topics. In addition, the EFR provides up to six sessions of free, one-to-one counseling. All EFR services are completely confidential.
