Catherine Lyons, RN, MS; Patricia Ann Vakos, RN

Catherine Lyons, RN, MS, vice president, Patient Services, Smilow Cancer Hospital, recently received the Connecticut Nurses Association’s Doris M. Armstrong Award for Outstanding Contributions to Nursing Administration. The honor, one of the organization’s Diamond Jubilee Awards, recognizes outstanding achievement, innovation and leadership in nursing service, healthcare delivery or public health.

Patricia Ann Vakos, RN, has been named patient service manager, Heart and Vascular Center Procedure Labs, HVC Outpatient Recovery Area, and PICC Services. She joined Yale New Haven Hospital in 2001 as a nurse in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and worked in various areas of cardiac nursing, including serving as assistant patient service manager in the Heart and Vascular Center for three years. She was also APSM of the Renal/ General Medicine unit (EP 7-5). Vakos earned her associate’s degree in nursing from Lasell Junior College, Newton, Mass., and her BS in nursing from Central Connecticut State University. She is pursuing her master’s in healthcare administration.

YNHHS leaders earn NAACP award

The NAACP recently recognized three Yale New Haven Health executives as being among Connecticut’s top 100 most influential African American leaders of 2018. Honorees were Kyle Ballou, Esq, vice president, Community and Government Relations; Gina Calder, vice president, Ambulatory Services, Bridgeport Hospital and Kevin Myatt, senior vice president and chief human resources officer.
