Since March 2015, Yale New Haven Health System employees have been asked to participate in advocacy efforts to oppose budget cuts and other legislation that negatively impacted hospitals. Employees sent thousands of emails to their legislators during these advocacy campaigns, yet many employees did not learn how their legislators voted on each issue. In response to requests for that information, YNHHS’ Community and Government Relations department has produced a voter guide. The non-partisan guide does not encourage employees and other members of the hospital community to support or oppose any candidates; it is a factual listing of how each Connecticut legislator has voted on the hospital-related bills. Join the chefs and registered dietitians at YNHH for special events on Food Day, Oct. 24, a national event to promote healthier eating and a better food system in America. Food tasting and demonstrations and information on healthy eating will be available 11:30 am - 1:30 pm in the East Pavilion Cafeteria, York Street Campus, and the Saint Raphael Campus cafeteria.
The Toy Closet Program, which distributes toys to Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital pediatric patients throughout the year, is running low on toys for ages 5 - 16. Donations of books, dolls, craft kits, art supplies, games, jewelry sets, nail polish, cosmetics and gift cards would be appreciated. All toys must be new and unwrapped, should not be longer than 24 inches and should not have small parts that can be removed or swallowed. Monetary donations will also be accepted. Nurses and other healthcare professionals are invited to the fourth annual YNHH Evolving Trends in Perinatal Nursing conference, “Conquering Inter-professional Communication,” 7 am Thursday, Nov. 3, Yale West Campus, Orange. Employees are invited to Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds, 5 - 6:30 pm Tuesday, Nov. 8, Fitkin Auditorium. The speaker is Adrienne Boissy, MD, chief experience officer, Patient Experience department, Cleveland Clinic. The talk is part of a series designed to help employees and physicians enhance their clinical leadership by learning from national and international experts on improvement science. To celebrate National Veterans Awareness Week, YNHH is holding appreciation celebrations Thursday, Nov. 10. All YNHH employees who are past or current active, reserve or guard service members are invited. A breakfast will be held 7 - 9 am in the East Pavilion cafeteria special events area and a lunch, noon - 1:30 pm in the Saint Raphael Campus cafeteria conference room.
Fortune magazine recently named Yale New Haven Hospital to its 2016 list of the 100 Best Workplaces for Women. The list highlights companies with generous benefits, flexible schedules and an emphasis on work-life balance. The 100 Best Workplaces for Women rankings are based on survey feedback from women at the winning companies, along with women’s representation within the organization. Responses from YNHH employees surveyed, as well as other organizations recognized, expressed a 95 percent or higher confidence level that their organization is vested in women’s advancement. Inclusion on this list indicates that YNHH has distinguished itself from peers by being a great place for women to work and a workplace where women have high representation in the total employee population and in management positions.
