Emmi Engage multimedia programs rolled out in the Sleep Centers across all delivery networks in mid-July and are expected to launch in August for Gastroenterology patients.

The interactive programs and articles supplement and reinforce key messages patients receive during office visits or hospital stays. Any healthcare provider with access to the Epic patient education tab, including nurses, medical assistants, care coordinators and physicians, can assign Emmi programs. Programs assigned directly through Epic are integrated into the patient's MyChart account. Patients receive an email and note in MyChart with instructions and an 11-digit access code for the program(s) assigned.

Emmi workflows for physicians and staff:

For inpatients: Physicians and staff can assign Emmi programs to a patient and their circle of care to view during their inpatient stay and/or for a patient to take home. Staff can add programs to their favorites list or order sets, or build into care maps. In most cases staff will show the "Hospital Visit Expectations" and "Hospital Discharge Expectations" programs upon admission, then assign diagnosis-specific programs during the patient's stay. Patients can view all programs on any device with internet access, including tablets in the inpatient environment.

For outpatient/ambulatory patients: Automation of programs in the ambulatory setting enables physicians and staff to centralize processes, reach large numbers of patients at one time and allow pre-scheduled patients to view their education at home, before their appointment/surgery. Providers can manually assign programs or embed programs into order sets, but to avoid duplication, should first ask their department heads if a process is already in place.
