Throwback Thursday: A new place for newborns

The world’s first Newborns Special Care Unit (NBSCU) was opened at Grace-New Haven Community Hospital (now Yale New Haven Hospital) in 1960 under the leadership of Louis Gluck, MD. This photograph shows the NBSCU in 1967, when it was renovated and expanded from a nine-incubator unit to one that could treat 40 newborns. For more information, visit the NBSCU display near the York Street Campus Atrium lobby now through April 25. If you have stories or mementos to share about YNHH’s NBSCU, contact the YNHH Archives, [email protected] or 203-688-5450. Photo courtesy of the YNHH Archives.
