A Kaleidoscope of Volunteers

The past holiday season was very memorable, thanks to the number of toys, the volunteers with their endless energy and enthusiasm, the children who organized toy drives for other children to be happy, the hospital staff uncomplaining about the short notices for HELP, the Valet Service co-operation and the smiling assistance of everyone at the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. The Toy Closet Program started receiving donations in the first week of December and the donations slowed the third week of January. More than 300 boxes of toys were packed and stored for the upcoming year which we are using at a rapid rate already. As the awareness of the program grows, the source of toys and volunteers expands. A new group from Guilford joined us this year: Pilgrim Fellowship. Elle Petra and Emma Bonz are part of a dynamic group of high school students who generally meet on Sunday evenings at First Church in Guilford. They focus on team building and service activities to help the community. Elle and Emma spent a day packing toys into boxes and then got a little more exercise by taking the boxes to the storage room in the basement. Elle also took time during her holidays to make teen girls’ gift bags.
