Visitor Guidelines

Visitors are limited at this time. Visitor guidelines vary by department. Consult the patient’s care team for guidelines regarding your visit.

Exceptions to this policy may be made for:

  • Neonatal ICU (NICU)
  • Pediatric
  • Obstetric
  • Psychiatric units
  • End-of-life care
  • Patients with disabilities who require a support person
  • Other extenuating circumstances

We continue to monitor the situation. The visitation guidelines will be amended when appropriate.

Bridgeport Hospital

Patients in the following categories will be allowed one (1) visitor per day. These categories are limited to COVID negative patients only. 

  • Inpatients: One visitor per day from 10 am – 8 pm (no swapping)
  • Children's: Two designated parents/caregivers during visiting hours, 10 am - 6 pm. Preferably these two visitors are from the same household. Only one person permitted outside of visiting hours. Parent/Caregivers may swap out with the second alternate parent/caregiver for overnight stays after 3 days until the patient is discharged. Pedi ED: Two parents/caregivers permitted. Visitors must be over 21.
  • Emergency: One per patient (no swapping)
  • Hospital-based testing: No visitors to tests within main hospital
  • Labor and Delivery: Two visitors allowed during labor and delivery
  • Non-Hospital Ambulatory: One visitor, to the extent possible
  • Psychiatry: 4 to 6 pm
  • OR /SDS/Procedures: One visitor

Greenwich Hospital

Patients in the following categories will be allowed one (1) visitor per day. These categories are limited to COVID negative patients only. 

  • Inpatients: One visitor per day from 2 - 8 pm (no swapping)
  • Children's: Two designated parents/caregivers during visiting hours, 10 am - 6 pm. Preferably these two visitors are from the same household. Only one person permitted outside of visiting hours. Parent/Caregivers may swap out with the second alternate parent/caregiver for overnight stays after 3 days until the patient is discharged. Pedi ED: Two parents/caregivers permitted. Visitors must be over 21.
  • Emergency: One per patient (no swapping)
  • Hospital-based testing: No visitors to tests within main hospital
  • Labor and Delivery: Two visitors allowed during labor and delivery
  • Non-Hospital Ambulatory: One visitor, to the extent possible
  • Psychiatry: N/A
  • OR /SDS/Procedures: One visitor

Lawrence + Memorial Hospital

Patients in the following categories will be allowed one (1) visitor per day. These categories are limited to COVID negative patients only. 

  • Inpatients: One visitor per day from noon - 8 pm (no swapping)
  • Children's: Two designated parents/caregivers during visiting hours, 10 am - 6 pm. Preferably these two visitors are from the same household. Only one person permitted outside of visiting hours. Parent/Caregivers may swap out with the second alternate parent/caregiver for overnight stays after 3 days until the patient is discharged. Pedi ED: Two parents/caregivers permitted. Visitors must be over 21.
  • Emergency: One per patient (no swapping)
  • Hospital-based testing: No visitors to tests within main hospital
  • Labor and Delivery: One primary support person can stay with the patient 24/7. This person cannot be swapped out and must be asymptomatic for COVID. They must also wear a mask whenever a healthcare professional is in the room or when walking the halls. A second support person may be present during labor and the immediate recovery period, at staff discretion. They must leave when recovery is over. This person must also be without COVID symptoms, must wear a mask when healthcare professionals are in the room and may not swap out with someone else.
  • Non-Hospital Ambulatory: One visitor, to the extent possible
  • Psychiatry: One visitor per day, noon - 8 pm (no swapping)
  • OR /SDS/Procedures: One visitor

Westerly Hospital

Patients in the following categories will be allowed one (1) visitor per day. These categories are limited to COVID negative patients only. 

  • Inpatients: One visitor per day from noon - 8 pm (no swapping)
  • Children's: Two designated parents/caregivers during visiting hours, 10 am - 6 pm. Preferably these two visitors are from the same household. Only one person permitted outside of visiting hours. Parent/Caregivers may swap out with the second alternate parent/caregiver for overnight stays after 3 days until the patient is discharged. Pedi ED: Two parents/caregivers permitted. Visitors must be over 21.
  • Emergency: One per patient (swapping allowed)
  • Hospital-based testing: No visitors to tests within main hospital
  • Labor and Delivery: Two visitors allowed during labor and delivery
  • Non-Hospital Ambulatory: One visitor, to the extent possible
  • Psychiatry: n/a
  • OR /SDS/Procedures: One visitor

Yale New Haven Hospital

Patients in the following categories will be allowed one (1) visitor per day. These categories are limited to COVID negative patients only. 

  • Inpatients: One visitor per day from 2 - 8 pm (no swapping)
  • Children's: Two designated parents/caregivers during visiting hours, 10 am - 6 pm. Preferably these two visitors are from the same household. Only one person permitted outside of visiting hours. Parent/Caregivers may swap out with the second alternate parent/caregiver for overnight stays after 3 days until the patient is discharged. Pedi ED: Two parents/caregivers permitted. Visitors must be over 21.

Women's

  • Two visitors per day, no swapping. The primary support person may visit outside of visiting hours. Second support person may visit 2 pm - 8 pm.
  • Children over the age of 12 may visit, if accompanied by an adult.
  • Labor and Birth allow a second labor support person for the duration of labor and delivery.
  • Second support persons will not be allowed for patients having planned cesarean deliveries.

Northeast Medical Group/ Ambulatory/ COVID Vaccine

Patients are allowed one visitor only if the patient needs assistance.

Virtual Resources

While we have limited visitation for inpatients, we encourage you to use digital resources to connect with your family and friends in the hospital and to assist them with their care.

FaceTime

FaceTime is a free video calling app available on iPhone or iPad devices that allows you to make calls with your loved ones who also have Apple devices. Many of our inpatient units have iPads with FaceTime installed. Patients can ask someone from their care team for additional info.

Zoom

Zoom is a video conferencing app that can be accessed on smartphones, tablets or computers. There are both free and paid plans. Many of our inpatient units have iPads with Zoom enabled. Patients can ask someone from their care team for additional info.

MyChart Proxy Access

MyChart is a free, secure service that provides medical information about your or your loved one’s care at a Yale New Haven Health location. Parents, family members, legal representatives and other individuals may be given a MyChart account to communicate with a patient’s physician if they become authorized as a proxy.
