COVID-19: Community voices

Yale New Haven Health is teaming up with local community leaders to address concerns about the COVID-19 vaccine. Our virtual town halls, “COVID-19 Vaccine: The Facts vs. Fiction” have included members of our clinical staff and panelists from the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation, Greater New Haven NAACP and 100 Black Men of Stamford.

These wide-ranging conversations cover topics such as vaccine safety, side effects, the history of racism in healthcare and the ongoing effort to improve diversity in clinical trials. Panelists, including Kisha Mitchell Richards, MD, Director of Greenwich Hospital Pathology also address the spread of vaccine misinformation online.

“Not everything that’s forwarded one million times on WhatsApp is the source of truth and I think for our community that relies on the message from other people, we need to take the time and make the effort to get additional information. Get other sources, look beyond the headline,” said Dr. Mitchell Richards during Greenwich Hospital’s January 28 town hall.
