Yale New Haven Hospital modifies patient visitation guidelines

Tuesday, March 2, 2021

New Haven, CT (March 2, 2021) - Since last fall, Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS) has strictly limited in-person patient visitation at its hospitals for the safety and well-being of patients and staff as part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For several weeks, the state and our health system have experienced a downward trend in hospital admissions, positivity rates and asymptomatic patients. With the positivity rate for COVID decreasing in our communities, YNHHS has decided to modify visitation guidelines for certain patient populations.

On Wednesday March 3rd, Yale New Haven Hospital will begin allowing limited visitors on selected units. This will include all adult inpatients, not located on a COVID unit, who have been in the hospital for longer than eight days. All other current exceptions will remain in place.

Visiting hours will be from 10 am - 6 pm daily and patients will only be allowed one visitor per day, with no changing of visitors within the day. All visitors must past COVID screening.

These guidelines balance safety with the provision of compassionate and patient-centered care. YNHHS will continue to monitor trends and new developments with regards to COVID-19 and adjust the visitation policies accordingly.

Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH), part of Yale New Haven Health, is a nationally recognized, 1,541-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine (YSM). Founded as the fourth voluntary hospital in the U.S. in 1826, today, YNHH has two New Haven-based campuses, and also includes Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital and Smilow Cancer Hospital. YNHH has received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the nation’s highest honor of nursing excellence. YNHH has a combined medical staff of about 4,500 university and community physicians practicing in more than 100 specialties. www.ynhh.org
