Oncology Associates of Bridgeport, PC joins Smilow Cancer Hospital

Working in collaboration with the physicians and staff of Oncology Associates of Bridgeport, PC (OAB), Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven will now provide services at Bridgeport Hospital’s Trumbull and Fairfield locations. This will allow patients access to the latest in screening and diagnostic, genetic counseling, cancer treatment, pharmacy, psychosocial support, pain management, rehabilitation and follow-up care.

“We are delighted to bring the nationally recognized cancer services of the Smilow Cancer Hospital to the Bridgeport community and to partner with the superb physicians and staff of OAB,” said Thomas J. Lynch, MD, director of Yale Cancer Center and physician-in-chief of Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven. “This collaboration creates a premiere care center in the community, enhancing the exceptional care already being provided by the OAB physicians.”

OAB has been affiliated with Bridgeport Hospital for more than 30 years. Now, through Bridgeport Hospital’s affiliation with the Yale New Haven Health System, OAB patients will have greater access to the world-class cancer expertise of Smilow Cancer Hospital.

“My colleagues and I are pleased to join the world-class team at Smilow Cancer Hospital,” said Robert Folman, MD, OAB president. “Cancer patients and their families in the greater Bridgeport area are gaining more convenient access to the wide range of specialty care that Smilow offers. This is a wonderful opportunity to build upon OAB’s nearly 40 years of dedication to cancer patients.”

The five OAB physicians will continue to see their patients at the Trumbull and Fairfield offices and, like the doctors and staff at Smilow Cancer Hospital, remain focused on patient- and family-centered care and making sure that each patient has an outstanding and positive cancer care experience. The physicians will become Yale faculty and members of Yale Cancer Center.

The offices in Trumbull and Fairfield have been undergoing renovations and will be expanded to provide on-site pharmacy services, upgraded facilities for infusion services and improved safety standards.

With the addition of the Trumbull and Fairfield offices, Smilow Cancer Hospital will have 10 Smilow Cancer Care Centers in the state, providing comprehensive outpatient oncology care, including chemotherapy at all sites, with concurrent radiation therapy at most sites, as well as access to clinical trials offered through Yale Cancer Center.
