Collaborative Obstetric Medicine at Bridgeport Hospital is dedicated to serving the special and diverse needs of women with medical conditions before, during and after pregnancy. Care is provided in collaboration with the patient’s obstetric providers to provide comprehensive care and ensure smooth transition after delivery.
Patients will be seen by an Obstetric Medicine, board-certified internist with special training in medical complications of pregnancy.
Depending on the needs of the individual woman, she may be referred to our team of Maternal-Fetal Medicine providers, dedicated subspecialists, perinatal mental health APRN and/or Wellness Check APRN.
The clinic offers pre-conception counselling and pregnancy planning for women with pre-existing medical conditions, including a full review of medications.
Women can be seen for a one-time consultation or ongoing care throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period. Women with new medical conditions or worsening of pre-existing medical conditions in the immediate postpartum period will also be seen.
The clinic provides a postpartum heart care program for women whose pregnancies are complicated by pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, placental abruption or stillbirth. Our goal is to prevent chronic disease by identifying risk factors that present in pregnancy and provide counseling and treatment aimed at reducing the risk of chronic disease later in life.
