Stephanie Sudikoff

Stephanie Sudikoff, MD, is the director of Simulation for YNHHS, with primary responsibility for the SYN:APSE (Simulation at Yale New Haven: Advancing Patient Safety and Education) Center for Learning, Transformation and Innovation. SYN:APSE is an inter-professional, state-of-the-art healthcare simulation and experiential learning program with staff expertise in technology, adult education and human factors engineering. It is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Dr. Sudikoff leads the SYN:APSE team designing, supporting and sustaining education, workflow analysis, device testing, facility design and other initiatives. As a pediatric critical care physician, she provides insight into the clinical environment and the context in which learners must apply and translate their skills. She has published and presented widely, and is a recognized leader in the national and international healthcare simulation communities.

Dr. Sudikoff received her BA from Columbia University; her MD from Mount Sinai School of Medicine; and a graduate certificate in teaching and learning/concentration in healthcare simulation from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions. She completed the Harvard-Macy Scholar Program for Educators in Health Professions.

Chris Banziru 

Chris Banziruk is a Simulation Specialist and graduate of Western Connecticut State University. He spent over six years working as a Collections Technician II in the Biomedical Division of the American Red Cross. His experience brings a blend of clinical proficiency and technical insight to the team.


Jim Chernesky is a senior simulation learning consultant who has over 35 years of experience in corporate training, performance management, organizational development and consulting. Jim holds a MS degree in instructional technology and a BS degree in education from Southern Connecticut University. He has served as a part-time adjunct faculty instructor with Post University in Waterbury for online and on-ground courses. He also holds process master and facilitation certifications. 


Janine Doucette is the simulation center coordinator. She has 15 years of experience in executive support, project coordination and data analytics within health care. Janine brings expertise from nursing administration, the Center for Professional Practice and Education and the Office of Privacy and Corporate Compliance. Janine holds a Bachelors in Business and Healthcare Management. She specializes in using data and graphics to communicate unique trends.


Christian Gonzalez is a Simulation Specialist who served under the quality group of Medtronic’s MITG division for 3 years handling product validation and design change testing prior to joining Yale New Haven Health. He holds a Masters in Biomedical Science with an interest in musculoskeletal physiology. His value on optimal patient quality of care and commitment towards continuing education drives him to pursue further education.


Antonietta Hallet  is the Simulation Development Strategy Specialist. She has extensive experience in corporate and regulatory compliance, employee relations, leadership development, strategy, change management, public relations, event management, communications and marketing. She has been employed in both the corporate and the non-profit sectors and with a diverse background, brings a great deal of innovative experience to the team. Antonietta holds a Master of Communications degree and an HR Management Certificate, both from Fairfield University. She also holds an Executive Healthcare Leadership Certificate from Cornell University.

Stephen G. Jones, MD
Dr. Stephen G. Jones lends a great deal of subject matter expertise in the area of patient safety and communication to the SYN:APSE Simulation Center. He is the Medical Director of Safety and High Reliability Training for Yale New Haven Health, where he holds numerous additional leadership positions. He is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine and double board-certified in Internal and Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Jones has been a featured medical commentator on numerous national television news shows and has made several local and national radio appearances. He has been quoted in many publications including The New York Times, Forbes, and Bloomberg BusinessWeek.

Karen Lombardi is a senior simulation operations specialist with over 10 years of acute patient care experience. Prior to joining our team, she worked as a respiratory therapist for Yale New Haven Hospital. Her clinical background and simulation experience provide developmental and operational guidance through all stages in program design and implementation. Karen’s involvement with interprofessional clinical teamwork is an asset. She attended Western Connecticut State University and received her respiratory degree from Norwalk Community College. Karen is currently pursuing her Master’s degree.  


Cheryl Mayeran is a senior simulation learning consultant who designs and implements simulation-enhanced learning, conducts faculty development courses in basic to advanced debriefing, and coaches new faculty during simulations. She has more than 20 years of experience in program development, project management, emergency medical services education, emergency management operations and planning, and public health administration. She holds a BS in biology, a MS in public health administration, and maintains certification as an emergency medical technician.


Tony Polcaro is the senior simulation technical specialist and brings almost 20 years of experience to the role. He demonstrates a balance of technical engineering and business management expertise from previous positions with ION Media Networks as regional operations manager, as well as CBS and World Wrestling Entertainment. Tony attended Thames Valley State Technical College for electrical engineering and received his technical services certification from Laerdal Medical Corporation.
