Education and Training Needs for Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness
Core Capabilities and Competencies for Medical Diaster Preparedness and Response
----------------------------------------------------------
The FETIG and the NCDMPH are charged through the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA) “to improve the Nation’s public health and medical preparedness and response capabilities for emergencies.” YNH-CEPDR and USNORTHCOM are supporting this charge in part through a series of six workshops designed to engage federal and non-federal stakeholders in developing core competencies for standard curricula to enhance the preparedness of first responders and first receivers in disasters.Â
Over the next eighteen months, we will be hosting workshops which will be based on suggestions provided by you and your colleagues as a result of the first workshop. Some of these topics include:
- Identify the workforce and required capabilities
- Examine and evaluate existing competencies and curricula
- Provide input to the National Health Security Strategy on workforce education and training (E&T)
- Examine and evaluate disaster health accreditation and certification
- Provide recommendations for disaster E&T for vulnerable populations
- Share information on available disaster health E&T courses
- Develop a formula for measuring success
- Examine and evaluate the grants process for disaster E&T programs
We are seeking your active involvement in this process. To that end, do you have additional topic ideas to share? Do you have suggestions regarding who should be invited to participate in future meetings? We welcome your recommendations on these and any other related topics of interest. Please feel free to forward your ideas and comments to kristi.jenkins@ynhh.org.
We have established this website to display information and materials related to the workshops.
